The aim of an organisation is always to optimise systemic performance, which is when all parties are working optimally together, at all times, within every area and aspect of the organisation. The essence of probably all leadership is about how one can persuade, without threat or violence, large numbers of individuals to come together and work coherently towards a clearly defined vision, performing systemically. We suggest in this book that as classic silo organisations are no longer capable of properly systemic performance, that new organisations based around the concept of open-team leadership, but working with the same core information, are necessary within our increasingly disruptive business environment. The book is about the organisational design of how to lead multiple teams in their optimally sustainable co-creation and delivery of value. It presents a process for building organisations of powerful ‘open’ self-directive teams who collaborate around shared purpose, connecting everyone to the difference they make in the world.
